NEW FILE ->    When we start AutoCAD for the first time, we have a “START UP” dialog box on the screen, wherein we have 3 options for staring a new fileà
1)                Start from scratch
2)                Use a template
3)                Use a Wizard
We have these three options in the “CREAT NEW DRAWING” dialog box also when we use the “NEW” COMMAND.
We use the option “USE A TEMPLATE” and click on the ACADISO.DWT file to start a new file.

DEFAULT SETTINGS FOR AN ACADISO. DWT FILEà

For lengthà
Unit is Decimal (mm)
Precision=0.0000
For Angleà
Unit is decimal degree
Positive direction for Angle Calculation is Anti clock wise
And the 0direction is towards the East.
In order to change any of the above mentioned settings, we click on the FORMAT menu and choose the command, UNITS or type UN at the command prompt. The drawing units dialog box appears on the screen and we can change the required changes.

MENUBARà
WHEN THIS IS 1 (ON), the menu bar consisting of no. of menus, will be available on the AutoCAD Screen.
When this value is 0 (OFF)., the menu bar will not be available on the AutoCAD Screen.

STARTUPà
When this is 1 (ON), the startup dialog box appears on the AutoCAD Screen, the very first time we start the AutoCAD
Session and when this value is 0 (OFF), the startup dialog box does not appear on the AutoCAD Screen.

TOOLBARSà
The position of the toolbars are NOT fixed, it can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the screen. We can cross off the toolbars which are NOT required on the Screen and to bring back the toolbars on to the screen again, we place the cursor on top of any of the icons and right click to get the list of the toolbars. Selecting any of the toolbars, we can have that toolbar on the screen.
WCS (world co-ordinate system)

ICONà
Is placed on the lower left corner of the GRAPHICS SCREEN AREA, by default.
Enter, spacebar or right click of the mouse à is usedto end a running command or repeat the last command.

RECENT INPUT à
Right click on the graphics screen area and use the “recent input” option to choose any one of the last 20 commands again.

STATUS BAR à
We have this portion on the screen, below the “command prompt area”
SAVE (CTRL=S, FILE MENU or STANDARD TOOLBAR)à When we use the save command for the first time, we have the SAVE DRAWING AS dialog box on the screen, wherein we will choose the required folder to save the file, typing the  name in the filename option. The ‘dwg’ extension is automatically attached to the file name.

METHODS OF DRAWING OBJECTS OBJECTS IN AUTOCAD
Using the left click of the mouse we pick points on the screen and make the drawing .
Using relative co-ordinate system à in this method we define the first point by picking with the mouse and we get the next point with respect to the previous point using the formula @X,Y
Using polar relatives co-ordinate system à this is similar to the previous method except that we use the formula @distance<angle, for eg., @ 100<45
using DIRECT DISTANCE ENTRY method à in this method also we define the first point by picking with the mouse and we get the next point with respect to the previous point in the direction of the cursor. For defining points at 900s we switch on ORTHO and for defining points at any other angels we switch on POLAR or DYN (DYNAMIC INPUT)
BLIPMODE à This is a system variable , which when switched on , gives imaginary blip marks at each and each every points we pick on the screen. By using the pan or zoom , we can remove these marks .

PROPERTIES TOOLBAR

PROPERTIES TOOLBARà
We have “color control”, “line type control” and “line weight” control” options in the properties toolbar.

Using the Color option, we can have different colors for drawing different objects. We can choose the colors from the “select color” dialog box, by using the select color option from the color control.

In order to specify different line weights for different objects, we need to to select a value from the list of line weight option and switch on the “SHOW/HIDE LINE WEIGHT” option from the Status bar in order to view the different line weights on the screen.
In order to load different line types on to the current drawing file, we click on the line type control option and chose the option “other”. A “LINE TYPE MANAGER’ dial box appears on the screen, wherein we have the “load” OPTION in order to load the selected line types from the “LOAD/RELOAD LINETYPE” dialog box. We make that line type current which is to be used for making drawings. We can delete any selected line type from the file, provide it is not used in the drawing. The dash size of all the line types in the drawing is the result of the multiplication factor of GLOBAL SCALE FACTOR and CURRENT OBJECT SCALE FACTOR But any change in the global scale factor value will change the dash size of all the line types of all the objects in the entire drawing file. But any change in the current object scale factor value will change the dash size of only the line types of only those objects which are created after changing the value.

                        ZOOM COMMANDS

Zoom (z) is used to make the objects size appear big or small.
Zoom windowà is used to define a rectangular area. Only those objects lying within this area is displayed on the entire screen.
Zoom all and zoom extents à in both these cases the entire drawing is displayed on the screen, but zoom extents extends it to the screen limit also

ZOOM DYNAMIC  is a combination of zoom all and zoom window. As we use this command, a blue window is displayed on the screen which indicates the drawing area. Another green window is displayed, which indicates the portion we were looking at just before giving the zoom dynamic command. We have a white window which is of the size of the green window by default. It’s size can be changed by using the left click of the mouse. This white window can be moved to any portion of the drawing and using the right click of the mouse, we can view that portion of the drawing on the entire screen

ZOOM OUT = 5x (half)
ZOOM IN = 2x (double)

ZOOM SCALE = nx, where the value of n < 1, to make the drawing size appear smaller and the value of n>1 to make the drawing size appear bigger

ZOOM OBJECT à in this case we select the objects which are to be zoomed to the entire screen

PAN (P) à is used to move the screen as required.

ZOOM REALTIME we use the left click of the mouse to drag the cursor upwards or downwards in order to make the drawing size appear bigger of smaller.

ZOOM PREVIOUS à it is used to undo the zoom command.
